The HTC Fitness Tracker Has Just Launched, And It Is Pretty

But can it outrun the upcoming Apple Watch?

Having recently teamed up with US sportswear brand Under Armour, Taiwanese phone manufacturer HTC have just unveiled the first fruits of their partnership: the HTC Grip, a wearable fitness-tracker that looks bad-ass and also does some other stuff.

As you can probably gauge from the above high-energy ad – which made us perspire just watching it – HTC are aiming the Grip squarely at the more hardcore end of the fitness market.

That’s not to say, however, that newbies couldn’t get some use out of it. The HTC fitness tracker’s features include:

  • Fully waterproof: the Grip can be used underwater at a depth of up to one metre for 30 minutes
  • Syncs and controls any smartphone, not just HTC models: receive call notifications, respond to messages, skip to the next song
  • GPS and accelerometer: the Grip records distance, pace and calories burned, with the results displayed on your smartphone – on the Under Armour Record app – post-workout
  • Monitors and records sleep activity
  • Will run for two days on a full charge (although this drops to five hours if GPS is enabled)
  • Is a nice shade of lime green on the inside

Plus – and let’s be honest, this is important – it looks pretty cool. Shall we see how it looks when a toned lady wears it, all casual like?

Yep, still cool.

Unfortunately for us Brits, no UK release date has yet been set for the Grip. The US will be getting it “in Spring”, so maybe hit someone up who’s off Stateside and get them to sneak you one back.
