Wingsuits are gnarly. That’s a simple fact of life, as firmly established as the fact that Kanye West is a little self-centred and Pharrell Williams doesn’t age.

Indeed, you don’t have to go to many extra lengths to be seen as a badass if you BASE jump in a wingsuit. The mere mention of parachuting sparks fear for many, so even if you gave it a go once, screamed the entire way down then told your mates you were cool as a cucumber, you still get a lot of respect.

He spent more than a minute in freefall and travelled 3km in the air, landing more than 1,500m below…

Someone who gets even more respect though – buckets and buckets of the stuff – is Valery Rozov, the Russian who once BASE jumped from Mount Everest, and who just became the first man to ever BASE jump from Mount Kilimanjaro last week.

To be specific, Valery conquered the highest point on the continent of Africa, 5,895 metres up, before descending back down to 5,460m to take on the jump. He then spent more than a minute in freefall, travelled 3km in the air, and eventually landed at the Barranco Camp more than 1,500m below.

You’re probably wanting to watch the footage though, and rightly so. Not only is the jump itself crazy – the guy gets up to over 180km/h while flying – some of the views in there are absolutely stunning as well.
