King Lines Climbing Movie

Sometimes, the old ones really are the best. Originally released in 2007, Big UP Productions and Sender Films’ co-production of the seminal climbing film King Lines has won more than a dozen awards and, according to its producers, is ‘the best selling climbing film of all time’ (although how Kevin MacDonald’s film of Touching the Void by Joe Simpson figures in that we’re not so sure).

King Lines follows world famous climber Chris Sharma on his global search for the ultimate ascent, from Venezuela to the Mediterranean. During the course of his adventure, Sharma made history when he conquered Es Pontàs, a previously unclimbed natural arch off the coast of Mallorca.

In this trailer we join Sharma and his team, notably fellow climbing ace Dave Graham, as they tackle some of the most challenging climbing of their careers. The level of skill they operate at is as incredible as the rock faces they climb are spectacular, but what is really compelling about this footage is the sheer precision with which they prepare for the ascents, and how perfectly in tune they are as a team.

Chris Sharma has since cemented his position at the very top of the climbing world with his films Progression and The Scene, and his remarkable 2013 ascent of La Dura Dura in Oliana, Spain, in partnership with young Czech climbing prodigy Adam Ondra. But for pure, white-knuckle entertainment, you can’t beat the classics. So have a look at this brilliant video and remind yourself just how awesome King Lines really was.
