The Blend Plus helmet / visor combination brings award-winning protection and vision into a seamless design

Why we chose the Scott Blend Plus: Innovative, comfortable, streamlined

Size: S, M, L
Price: £225

Winner of the coveted 2022 ISPO Award, the Scott Blend Plus helmet is essentially Scott’s take on an integrated helmet and visor system. Now integrated goggle systems are definitely an acquired taste, but we love the way that Scott has approached this style and that’s why we’ve decided to include it in this year’s 100.

Scott Blend Plus Design

So what’s it all about then? Well, as you can see from the photos, the helmet features a visor (kind of) attached to it. We say ‘kind of’ as, in the case of the Blend Plus Helmet, the visor is actually separate from the helmet. This is different to many other integrated systems that feature a fixed point for the visor to rotate from.

This freedom has been achieved through the use of neat magnets that are set into both the helmet and visor. The visor can be easily removed and placed on the front of the helmet, and is held in place with these magnets. A bit of cord, by the way, ensures the visor will never go missing if it accidentally falls off the helmet.

This extremely innovative separation of the lens and helmet means that it’s easy to switch out the lens for a regular pair of goggles if you fancy a change. It also means that you can easily switch out for a pair of sunglasses during warmer conditions without having to worry about having a big lens strapped to the top of your helmet.

Scott Blend Plus Features

The helmet, aside from the additional magnets and cord for the visor, looks and fits just like a regular helmet. It features an in-mould design with MIPS for some best in class protection and active venting for comfort on the mountain no matter the time of year.

Looking at the visor, it makes use of Scott’s Amplifier lens technology. Similar to many other bits of contrast-boosting lens technology, this Amplifier essentially filters out the light you don’t need to see and, in doing so, boosts the light you want to see (Blue light, Orange light and Red light). These light ranges are said to be the most important in enhancing contrast and clarity in poor light conditions.

Let’s be honest: It’s really hard to get an integrated helmet / visor system to not look too kooky. However, in the case of the Blend Plus, Scott has absolutely nailed the design. It offers some really impressive airflow and a seamless connection between the helmet and visor. With some handy magnets to help stash the visor when you’re not using it, Scott have gone and created a seamless package for riders in the market for an integrated system.
