Ever Seen Snow-Kite-Boarding? There’s A Reason Why This Hasn’t Caught On…

If snowboarding and kiteboarding had a baby, it would look something like this

Our good friends over at Whitelines recently posted footage of this new take on snowboarding and it certainly got our attention…

Introducing snow-kite-boarding, a cross between snowboarding and, you guessed it, kiteboarding. They’ve just replaced water in the ocean for the frozen mountain variety.

It’s been around for a few years, but we’d completely forgotten this crazy sport existed. It’s hardly surprising it hasn’t made it massive in the mainstream – and it’s not the first time someone’s tried it either.

Did you ever see snow sails? A questionable attempt to ruin the purity and simplicity of sideways-sliding. “We can see the appeal. No lifts, no ski schools. But it’s still not snowboarding, is it?” OK, so we can see the appeal. No lifts, no lift pass and no ski schools. But it’s still not snowboarding, is it?

Snow-kite-boarding is more about hang time and grabs rather than sliding across the snow. Unless you’re hitting outrageous speeds (unlikely) then the edges of your board mean almost nothing.

We don’t think it’ll catch on across mountains worldwide, but don’t be surprised if you see more riders dropping high-flying edits of this sport online in the future….
