Jonny Walker winning the Beach Race and Graham Jarvis the Forest Race at Red Bull Sea to Sky 2012 October 20, 2012 - Kemer, Antalya, Turkey A record breaking 130 riders from 20 countries came to race Red Bull Sea to Sky, the most enjoyable extreme enduro race, in Kemer (Turkey). Race day 1 at Red Bull Sea to Sky had been kicked off with the spectacular Beach Race close to the beach resorts at the Turkish Riviera. It was to be expected that Britain's super talent Jonny Walker would show his motocross skills to win the first of the two qualification races.
A motocross-like track had been designed right at the beach of Kemer including frightening jumps, sharp turns in deep sand and a high speed straight with speeds of over 130km/h. Even though 21 years old Jonny Walker - who lives close to the beach and frequently trains a lot out there in the sand with some top 20 MX1 World Championship riders - caught a bad start he was able to advance and take over the lead within the first lap. The mode of the Beach Race was mass start and 15 minutes + 2 laps. Walker had a solid 14 seconds lead on runner up Xavi Galindo (E, Husaberg) and 53 seconds on the German top gun Andreas "Letti" Lettenbichler (Husqvarna) in third place.
Right after the Beach Race the riders advanced to the paddock for a quick service to get the bikes prepared for the Forest Race: Single trails, gravel roads and the first steeper up- and downhills at about 30 degrees centigrade turned out to be pretty tiring but still enjoyable.
