In a contest which saw four females and eight males proceed to the final after two qualifying rounds, it was Katy Summerhayes (17, Sheffield) and Chris McCormick (14, East Dunbartonshire) who came out on top, claiming the two £1000 winners' prizes. In the female contest Katie Summerhayes was given a run for her money by Scottish rider Anna Vincenti (17, Edinburgh) who finished in second place and sister Molly Summerhayes (15, Sheffield) who was third in front of Madi Rowlands (12, Rochester) who just missed out on a podium finish. Anna Vincenti and Molly Summerhayes rode well throughout the competition performing strong technical tricks and consistently hitting the rails switch, but they couldn't quite compete with Katie who sealed the win with a switch on, 540 off on the first rail and a 270 on, 270 off on the second rail. Katie, who recently came fourth in the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships said of her win: "I was really happy to get the gold today. The other girls are getting stronger so I had to be on good form. The park guys did a really good job on the course and it was well laid out. It was a shame about the weather, but all of us went for it and it was good to see people still came out to watch." In the male competition, it was a close contest with Chris McCormick just nudging out Mike Rowlands (15, Rochester) who finished in second place and Julian Ball (28, Val d'Isère) who was third. Rowlands continuously pulled out a range of tricks including several solid K-feds, and the experienced Julian Ball made very few mistakes, consistently stomping his tricks on both rails. It was McCormick, however, who came out on top as he performed a host of technical tricks, with a 270 unnatural on the first rail, followed by a 270 on, 270 off on the second. Josh Birch (20, Slough) could have clinched the title had he landed a massive 630 gap jump onto the second rail, but he couldn't quite hold it on landing, much to the disappointment of the vocal crowd. Chris McCormick, who has exploded onto the freeski scene over the past few years, was delighted with his win: "I can't believe I have won, I am totally stoked. I went out and did the best I could today and was really pleased with my performance. I had a great time last year, but so far I love being in Tignes and I am looking forward to the rest of the week." The well-shaped course was the perfect place to showcase British freeski talent to the enthusiastic crowd who braved the snowy weather to watch the UK's best riders push the limits on the BRITS Bangers and Cash course.
