Just in time to celebrate the comeback of winter the PBRJ – GERMANY had its showdown at the sunny slopes of the ski resort Oberjoch last weekend. Everything was falling into places, as skies were blue, snow was fresh and the Mini Snowpark was shaped in apple pie order by Christle and Andres. (who are taking care of the park over 11 years) Upon arrival contestants found a setup that pretty much catered for a broad spectrum of skill levels. Starting with a fair downrail, continuing with a down tank - which could be entered via a pole jam - and last but not least ending with a massive double kinked rail. Tents and chill out area were located at the foot of the setup to guarantee a good view on the action and allow the riders to spray some faces with white, frozen H20. Surprisingly participation was best in the Girls and +16 division, whereby the Open and 15 – suffered a lack of contestants. Therefore the actual format was adjusted to the circumstances and two heats (-15/+16/Open & Girls) plus a “Super Final” (all divisions) were held. Meanwhile the crew was preparing Peanut Butter & Jelly toast for the hungry ones, a bit further up hill, riders began smearing the rails and tanks with their finest trick marmalade. Just to name a few, fs blunts danish out, cab 5-0 revert, nosepresses, pole jam to “everything” down the tank, 50-50 double kinked to bs 360 over the last kink etc. etc. pp. Needless to say, the following two heats were on fire and tricks were thrown down like pulled on a string. The crowd was going mad, pushing their friends to the limit, giving tips and cheering landings. While still being a bit dizzy from the load of massive tricks, crowd and riders could unwind in the prepared chill out area, between the heats and the super final. Sausages and burgers could be found in abundance, as well as a tree stump to hammer some nails in (traditional Austrian drinking game). As the “super final” began, it became clear that Lena Waizenegger still felt like a little snack and after landing some sick tricks on the double kinked rail and tank, nibbled on the downrail (unfortunately at the expense of her front teeth). At the end Mary Luggen convinced the judges (Alex Pfeffer, Jens Hennefarth, Holger Mertn) with consistency and a good portion of style that she wants to go to Avoriaz by doing the first place at the PBRJ – Oberjoch Girls. Despite that he was the only rider in his category (-15) the Dutchman Jeroen Kooist showed his skills and confirmed that he could have easily ridden in the open or over +16 division. The last two divisions caused some serious “hair tearing” especially when Jonny Schaal flew in a Harry Potter fashion into the lower part of the kinked rail with multiple variations of lipslides, certainly worth 10 points for Gryffindor! Further, at 15.23 pm, Kas Lemmes - the flying Dutchman - departured from the pooljam, flew with a fs 360 tailgrab over the downtank and arrived safely at the Open division’s first place. Big congrats go out all the winners who qualified for the PBRJ - Finals in Avoriaz. next weekend. At this point again big shout outs to our friends from VANS,, NITRO and especially Christle and Andres who made the organisation as smoothly as possible. Last but not least, we’re looking forward to see everyone revitalized at the PBRJ – FINALS. ROCK ON!!! RESULTS 15 - 1. Jeroen Kooistra - 16 + 1. Volker Schicke 2. Steffen Rothert 3. Lukas Hoffmann 4.
