10How To Not Look Like An Idiot On Your First Ski Trip
At the Marin Trail near Betws y Coed, I climbed for more than an hour trying to find a short cut into the DH final sections of the trail. On top of being my first time there, it had been raining so it was tough but real fun!
I did it twice on two consecutive days and even though the second day it was very wet, I had already improved! Doing some of the sections that I couldn't do the previous day really encouraged me! And I noticed my speed was far higher, despite the much more difficult terrain(due to the rain).
When I see the video, it looks so slow!!!...but I was flying!...or so it felt like it!
Coed y Brenin was a whole different kind of thing! The Blue trail is easy at first sight, but be careful, all that gravel will steer you out of track and out of control in just a second if you don't keep your concentration! It has that 'quality' that makes it 'easy', but if you are not careful it will get you into trouble in a blink!
The MBR trail was 'a rock garden from hell'!!! Unbelievably hard, tough, scary, taxing, a torture for a first timer! You must have your skill 'up there' and...
...your fitness dialled in! Not to mention enormous amounts of commitment! It is NOT an easy trail. Not the first time or the second...or the third one. It will take a long time for anyone to go around it, without stoping and going through and over every obstacle.
In any case though, it is just that what makes all of this trails worthwhile. And it is the challenge impose upon us(and by us) that make us excel and better ourselves, making us, in the end, not only better riders, but ultimately...
...better human beings. With stronger character, tougher personality and at the same time a lot more humble and much more nimble.
This are the trails that we like, because they challenge us.
I hope you enjoy the video. I did enjoy riding there...you can be sure of that!
