The Yeti squad invade Maribor, Slovenia for the first World Cup of the 2008 season.
Unlike the slosh of Schladming in 2007, this track was hard packed, dry and flat out. With a mix of big open sections, the infamous rock garden, and plenty of rooty mayhem, the likes of Sam Blenkinsop and Justin Leov had to keep their wits about them, and their Fox shox tuned to perfection.
This was the race that Josh Bryceland had THAT crash on the rock garden, which left many people speechless. Thankfully the Junior World Champ lived to tell the tale. The Yeti boys were on the legendary 303 DH bike, with a pair of Fox 40s strapped to the front, which ate the rock garden for breakfast.
The hill at Maribor is a beast, for the track builders among us you might be interested to know that a 30 minutes downhill course would not be out of the question here. There are numerous lines, downhill and singletrack, lying around on the hillside. Sam Hill knew this only too well, and spent large portions of practice sessioning them, instead of the actual World Cup track!
Leov took it easy in practice before opening it up in the finals, riding on the edge and taking a top ten finish in his first World Cup of the season. Check it out, get pumped by the soundtrack, then take the skills to the hills near you.
