Day six has been called a lay day at the O’Neill Cold Water Classic in New Zealand. After putting the event on hold twice this morning, Contest Director Matt Wilson opted to call it quits at midday.
But when hardcore surfers can’t surf in the ocean, they’ll make sure they find another way to surf! And all they needed were some bodyboards and the Rere Rockslide – a natural rock slide which is a part of the Wharekopae River…
Only eight surfers - Adam Melling (AUS), Gony Zubizarreta (ESP), Joan Duru (FRA), Tom Whitaker (AUS), Willian Cardoso (BRA), Thiago Camaro (BRA), Miguel Pupo (BRA) and Stuart Kennedy (AUS) - remain in the event and when the quarterfinals hit the water tomorrow we will find out who will be the first Kiwi Champion of the O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series 2011!!
