200 years ago, on August 3rd 1811, the brothers Johann Rudolf and Hieronymus Meyer from Aargau, Switzerland, climbed the first four-thousand-metre peak in Switzerland, the Jungfrau mountain. 200 years of exciting mountaineering history followed.
Celebrating its 150th anniversary itself, Swiss mountaineering specialist MAMMUT commemorates these extraordinary jubilees by organizing the Anniversary Basecamp and kicking off the Biggest Peak Project in history on August 3rd 2011, exactly 200 years after the first ascent!
The highlight of the camp is the joint ascent to Jungfrau summit (4,158 m). In order to celebrate the anniversaries in an authentic way, one of the teams tackles the climb in historic clothes and gear!
