Mick had to be content with an equal 3rd finish in J-Bay after getting knocked out by a hungry Taj Burrow. Mick turned his focus to Trestles looking to strengthen his lead in the world title race but came unstuck when he lost to event wildcard Dane Reynolds in Round 3. Hossegor and Mundaka were the next stops on the tour where Mick bounced back with some amazing surfing.
