Danny MacAskill: ‘At Some Point I’d Love To Start A Bike Shop… I Still Love Fixing Bikes’

The Scottish trials star may return to his mechanic roots at some point in the future...

Most people dream of sickening stunts and ridiculous riding when they think of Danny MacAskill, but the Scottish rider has admitted that he may have a more mellow future ahead.

MacAskill recently released ‘The Ridge’ to global acclaim, and while the video sees him take on death-defying lines on the Cuillin Ridgeline, he recently told The Telegraph how he’d one day love to take a timeout and open a bike shop of his own.

“At some point I’d love to start a bike shop,” he said. “I still love fixing bikes.

“I’ve got a strand and all my tools in my flat, and I build my own bikes and build my own wheels and maintain everything. It’s something that I enjoy doing.”

MacAskill was working as a bike mechanic in Inspired Bicycles in Edinburgh when he released the 2009 YouTube edit that made him a star.

The rider obviously has all the credentials then, and we doubt that a bike shop with his name on the front would struggle to attract the clientele.

Danny continued: “I need to figure out where the best place to [open a shop] would be.

“I don’t know if I’d be the best person to manage it. I know where my skills lay, and it’s definitely not in management! But I do think it’d be a cool thing to have.”

Of course, there’s no chance that Danny will be giving up on his riding just yet in order to take on such a project.

The Scotsman has been out on his Drop and Roll tour lately and dropped a sick edit of him and his trials team in action.

For the future, he says that he’d like to go back to making more carefree films and having a bit more fun in front of the camera.

“I fancy making more light-hearted stuff,” he continued. “Going back to my roots and just doing what’s fun.

“I first and foremost still enjoy going to ride my bike at night with my headphones in, exactly as it was before these videos came out. Now I’ve got the opportunity to think big.”
