The 10 Best Mountain Bike Video Parts You Really Should Have Watched...
You may disagree (angrily, this is the internet after all) but these are the best video parts of the last two decades
All of us have them. Those seminal movie segments that got you so hyped you went straight down your local woods and hucked your meat off a poorly built jump or drop, the soundtrack to the aforementioned segment ringing gloriously in your ears... until you inevitably ate shit trying something beyond your ability level.
It was part of our growth as mountain bikers. It was ritual and it's probably the reason we still go out at every opportunity and dream of being able to corner like Sam Hill or whip like Thomas Vanderham.
"All of us have them. Those segments you still remember every trick from years later..."
Of course everyone's seminal parts are different, so putting together a collection of the very best may seem bold. I'm sure many of you will disagree with this list (probably angrily, this is the internet after all) but after some debate these are the ones we believe are the all time greats.
Those ones that when you hear the song playing in a café or bar somewhere years later, you still remember the corresponding shot or jump or turn or trail...
1) Josh Bender, New World Disorder 2.
55ft drops, 12 inches of suspension, no footers, a metal soundtrack and a death wish. What more could you possibly want!
2) Cedric Gracia, New World Disorder 5.
Cedric is, and always will be the coolest man in mountain biking. This segment captures him at his best, the eternal showman.
3) Coastal Crew, Kranked 8.
Arguably one of the most original and best mountain bike parts ever filmed. Friends riding wild lines never gets old. Just sit back and enjoy.
4) Matt Hunter, Seasons.
5) Whistler Segment, The Collective.
5) Final Segment, Roam.
Not only does this segment single-handedly account for all of Rise Against's worldwide album sales, the airs in it are still huge by today's standards. And it's nice to see the now crusty old boys of the game looking so young and fresh faced.
6) Hayfield Segment, Life Cycles.
Still the most original dirt jump segment to date and you never even see a jump. Add Brandon Semenuk and Cam McCaul and you have pure magic.
7) Sunshine Coast, Arrival.
A collection of the most stylish and powerful shredders building a dream trail and then ripping it a new one. What could be better? And the best thing is you can go ride the very same trail for yourself as it is a part of the Coast Gravity Park on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada.
8) Robbie Bourdon, New World Disorder 9.
Small in stature but large in balls, Bourdon was the consummate hucker and never afraid to go huge. His flat spin in this segment is still one of the most impressive natural hits ever filmed.
9) Gobi Desert, Where the Trail Ends.
Turns out the trail ends in China. With no more trail to ride these athletes take to the huge mountain faces and ride them like big mountain skiers ride Alaska. Fast and Loose.
10) Post Office, Strength in Numbers.
In honour of the recently bulldozed Post Office Jumps in Aptos California we finish with Strength in Numbers all stars dirt jump session.
Bonus: 11) Brandon Semenuk's 'One Shot'
...Because we can't not have this in here.
