Watch the Terrifying Moment a Mountain Biker Realised He Was Being Stalked By a Lion
...and it's not the only time a biker has been chased by an animal
Imagine the scene; you’ve just chucked your favourite new album on your iPod, jumped on your bike, loaded your backpack with all the essentials for the day – water, food, puncture repair kit, a copy of ‘Dodgeball’ on Blu Ray – and headed up the mountains.
It’s a sunny day, the blood is pumping and you’re on the trails. What a great day to be alive. And then you see it, out the corner of your eye... your copy of ‘Dodgeball’ has fallen out of your rucksack. Oh, and also there’s a mountain lion stalking you through the forest. That too. Arguably more that actually. ‘Dodgeball’ doesn’t age particularly well anyway.
There’s a rich history of animals meeting mountain bikers when they’re out for a ride...
Now, when you go out on the trails on your mountain bike, we’re guessing you want to get rad. You want a story to tell. You want to get dangerous... But more in the kind of drop-a-little-gap or nail-a-gnarly-root-section kind of way than a mauled-by-a-hungry mountain-lion way.
Anyway, the dude in this video seems to deal with the situation pretty well, politely informing the mountain lion that he is much bigger than it, and then telling it to go away.
He did seem to forget that the lion doesn’t speak English, but after shouting, growling, shaking – if his footage is anything to go by – and setting a new world record for the amount of times any one man has said ‘mountain lion’ in a video, he managed to escape unharmed:
Interval sidenote: Why on Earth the maker of this video thought he would open and close with a title card set in space is completely beyond us. Perhaps the experience was all a bit much for him.
Of course, Chris isn’t the only cyclist to ever meet something more daunting than a mistreated berm in the middle of the trails.
In fact, there’s a rich history of animals meeting mountain bikers when they’re out for a ride, and guess what? You’ve just stumbled upon the mother-trucking library! Congratulations. Here's the internet’s finest meetings between cyclists and scary things.
Admittedly, this one is a little less scary than running into a bear.
