Audi Have Just Released A Super Bike On Sale For £12,600... Here’s Why
This super featherweight bike costs more than a car, and only 50 are ever going to be made
There are a lot of things hardcore roadies will do to make sure they go that little bit faster, and very few of them make sense to anyone who isn’t involved in the sport.
They’ll happily sacrifice any shred of fashion sense they ever had in favour of a skin-tight lycra onsie for example. It’s also never a surprise to see them rocking legs looking smoother than a Ryan Gosling pick up line, and they’ll be dead before they carry a gram of excess weight on the bike.
Of course, all of that often comes at a price – which they’re happy to spend, even if it does involve hiding the receipts – so husbands and wives of keen road cyclists may be frightened to hear that Audi have just unveiled a bike frame weighing just 790 grams, and it’s soon going to hit the market at over £12,000.
That’s right, the ‘Audi Sport Racing Bike’ - as well as boasting the most mundane name of all time - has now been unveiled by the German car manufacturer, and the £12.6k ride is more than a little bit special.
As well as the frame weighing in at less than a few mobile phones, the total bike weight of the complete is said to be 5.8kg, making it one of the most lightweight options available.
Loving other halves who are scared for their bank accounts need not fear for now though, for the bicycle is set to become somewhat of a collector’s item. Only 50 of the rides will be available world-wide, so you’d need to be super keen and super lucky to actually get your bums on one of the saddles.
The carbon fibre used was created by Japan’s Toray Industries and is the same T1000 used in Audi’s race cars, while the wheels are Lightweight Meilensteins carbon clinchers and the groupset Shimano Dura-Ace Di2.
All in all, what that means is that the thing weighs less than a few baseball bats, three or four pineapples, or a couple of Xbox 360s, and you can sure as hell ride it faster than every single item on that list. Especially the pineapples.
It’ll be interesting to hear how the bike rides when it’s small manufacturing run is inevitably snapped up, but until then, keep a couple of scenes free in your dreams tonight for that beautiful lightweight frame. You won't be the only one shivering with excitement.
