The Union Cycliste International, or UCI as it’s more commonly known, has as grand a history as any governing body out there.
The UCI is at the very heart of everything cycling, issuing licenses, enforcing rules, banning dopers, overseeing everything from mountain biking to road cycling, track cycling, BMX, cyclo-cross and beyond. It has a huge influence in deciding the direction of the sports we love, and as such, it’s influence matters.
116 years ago when the organisation was founded in 1900, on 14 April in Paris to be exact, the members had a vision; to progress cycling in as many forms as possible, to prevent Team GB being dickheads – another story for another time – and ultimately, to make cycling the best sport in the world.
"In some ways it's no surprise to see the UCI posting a picture of someone wearing provocative lycra"
Somehow we don’t think those founding fathers would be overly impressed by the UCI these days, or at least not in their social media staff posting booty-lead videos of twerking to their Facebook page.
Now, in some ways it's no surprise to see the UCI posting a picture of someone wearing provocative lycra – in fact, that’s pretty much their job – but did the cycling world really need this link in their lives:
Don’t get us wrong, self-expression is great and all, and Major Lazer’s “Lean On" was one of the undeniable party slammers of 2015, but this seems a little, err, bold?
Okay, so the UCI Facebook page clearly got hacked yesterday, and it’s made us laugh quite a lot, and yes, we’re now going to milk it.
Note Neil O’Brien’s comment on the photo link above. He writes: "I can only presume that the UCI Facebook account has been hacked. Not the sort of thing I would expect." Neil is not f*cking impressed.
Fear not if you do really want to watch the Twerk Freestyle to Major Lazer & DJ Snake though. We’ve tracked it down for your viewing pleasure. It’s got 35 MILLION VIEWS?!
There’s even been rumours that it was UCI President Brian Cookson who was behind the posts as well. There's been rumours he's been hanging out with Nicki Minaj a lot recently, and he was even photographed himself twerking on stage earlier this month:
Indeed, with the UCI Cyclo-cross World Champs taking place in Zolder this weekend in the Netherlands, you would’ve thought the social media focus would be on the build up to the big event. But no.
Shortly after their first delve into the world of ‘LaughWithVoice.com’, which we probably wouldn’t recommend visiting, the UCI were at it again, posting the no doubt pioneering feature: “The Dribble Dancers are Back with the Dance Moves You Can’t Take Your Eyes Off".
Say what you want, but Teddy Citler, Sandeep Singh Mann, William Alberto and two others liked it. Not quite as much as Twitter enjoyed this screenshot though:
The UCI Facebook page is being hacked. LOL pic.twitter.com/RWX7VSpI9Q

Of course, the UCI quickly realised that the cycling world didn’t share their love for twerking and the awfully named ‘Dribble Dancers’ and posted this apology:
Were they really hacked though, or did they just want the two-wheeled world to finally appreciate twerking for the art form it really is? We’ll never know for sure. Though we’d probably say it was the former. Definitely the former.
Disclaimer: That's not Brian Cookson twerking. We know it looks just like him and all. But it's not. We used photoshop. Looks real though, right? RIGHT?! Right.
