We’ve all had nights that we’d rather forget, when you wake up the next day with a pounding headache, no idea where any of your possessions are and a mysterious bike lock hanging around your neck.
Okay, well maybe that’s not exactly the norm for most morning wake-ups after a heavy night out, but it certainly was for one unfortunate 20-year-old who had to go to Coventry Fire Station to get freed from a U-lock last weekend.
The man was driven to the fire station at around 7.30pm after waking up with the lock around him several hours earlier. While station commander Pete Drummond said the man was unhurt, he did add that “his mother was raging."
“We tried a cutter, but it just marked the lock," said Drummond. “Then we tried a reinforced bar cutter, but it just dented it.
“[The man had woken] up at about 16:00 and found his mates had put the lock round his neck and thrown away the keys. He really did have his tail between his legs."
The victim of the cruel prank was eventually freed, but only after the fire-fighters were forced to call in West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service’s Technical Rescue Unit, cover the man with a fireproof blanket and cut through the steel lock with a circular saw.
We imagine the man in question will be laying off the booze for a little while now, possibly while he searches for a new set of friends.
