Lexus have made all your your Back To The Future fuelled, childhood dreams come true, and invented an actual legit’ hoverboard.
Now, you’d be forgiven for thinking this is the action sports industry crying wolf. We’ve heard many times before that the first ever hover board has been invented. Remember the Hendo board? and the dude who strapped leaf blowers to a deck? And the time Tony Hawk duped us?
Well, it appears that motor giants Lexus have actually come up with the goods. With the help of UK skater Ross McGouran, they’ve just dropped this first footage of their legit’ looking hoverboard.
The science behind the board is surprisingly simple, but is also kind of disappointing.
*SPOILER ALERT*
While it appears to be hovering above a genuine, concrete skate park, being powered by some magical smoke, but in reality, the concrete is hiding large sheets of metal.
The board has a pair of super powerful magnets inside it, and push against the metal, making it float just off the ground.
And the magical smoke? It’s actually liquid nitrogen, used in the board to cool the superconductors magnets inside to a brisk -321 degrees f.
That said, the board still looks rad. And it’s an improvement on even the one that Marty McFly set a million childhood imaginations racing with – the Lexus board can even go over water.
Granted, it probably helps if there’s a fridge dumped in the bottom of the pool, but let’s not let that ruin things, eh.
