Introducing The Wall Of Death: Skateboarding's Gnarly New Innovation
Welcome to the craze that's changing how you skate...
The world of vert skating hasn't seen too many great innovations since some bright spark decided that you can build U-shaped ramps to replicate the back yard swimming pools that made for such epic skate spots in the 1970's.
However, that's set to change with the Wall Of Death. It's basically a quarter pipe with much more vert than a regulation human could possibly ever need. 21 feet of vert, in fact.
The aim then, just like it is for most skateboarders on the weekend, is to get as high as possible. In the end, Philip Dulude - a man just an 'ul' away from being a Dude - nailed a staggering 15 feet off flat to take home the $1000 cash prize.
Is this the future of vert skating? Probably not, but it's certainly an exciting bit of innovation, and yet another way to rip on a board, and that's something that's always welcome.
