Patagonia Untracked Jacket Review
An in-depth review of the Patagonia Untracked jacket
When you are standing on top of a ridge waiting to drop into a steep line, you want to make sure you’ve got a jacket that is going to protect you from the elements.
The brand has a long and rich history of making excellent mountain gear. Patagonia grew out of a small company based in California that started making climbing equipment before branching out into clothing. With over half a century making equipment for the mountains under their belts, they know exactly what an adventurer needs to suit his or her chosen climate.

The Untracked jacket is made from three-layer GoreTex, making it totally waterproof and windproof, ready to protect you from the snow and rain. It’s also coated with a durable water repellent finish to prevent your jacket getting saturated in a heavy storm. While it isn’t insulated, inside you’ll find a soft-brushed fabric lining for extra warmth without adding any bulk.
Patagonia have paid close attention to detail when it came to designing the Untracked jacket. The hood is helmet compatible with a cord-lock system to adjust it to fit snugly around your head. The zips are also waterproof, plus there are easily accessible vents under the armpits allowing you to dump heat when needed.
Inside you will also find two hand warmer pockets plus a media pocket for your phone with cable routing and an internal drop-in pocket for your gloves and goggles.
Patagonia are one of the most environmentally-conscious outdoor brands in the world. You can track the environmental impact of this jacket - from the crop to the fabric to the finished product - so you know exactly what you are buying and where it has come from. You can also buy a pair of Untracked trousers made with three-layer GoreTex to wear with the jacket too.
Patagonia are renowned for their GoreTex waterproof jackets and the Untracked jacket is one of their most up-to-date creations. It’s a classic design that will keep you warm and dry when carving through knee-deep powder for years to come.
