This Crazy Russian Just Became The First Man To Jump Into The Crater Of An Active Volcano

...Oh, and did we mention he dropped twelve and a half metres from a helicopter to start with?

Freerider Ivan Malakhov recently made history by becoming the world’s first man to leap into the crater of an active volcano… and did we mention he did it on skis?

The stunt took place in the shadow of the Mutnovsky volcano, located in the southern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia and standing tall at an altitude of 2323m. Malakhov faced intense challenges including “difficult snow conditions, the ice inside of the crater and the real risk of falling into a pit of boiling rock,” which if you ask us, sounds a bit shit.

Malakhov had initially intended to attempt to make his ground-breaking jump the highest ski jump ever from a helicopter as well, but conditions on the day did not allow that part of the plan to be accomplished. Safe to say, the footage – and yes, it is entirely in Russian – still makes for an incredible watch…
