Tragedy In Switzerland: Italian Wingsuit Pilot's Final Moments Live-Streamed On Facebook
"Today you fly with me," Armin Schmieder told viewers before jumping off the Kandersteg summit.
Armin Schmieder, a 28-year old wingsuit pilot from Italy, was live streaming his descent from the summit of the Kandersteg in Switzerland when tragedy struck and he was killed. In the footage, which you can watch below, Schmieder can be seen telling his viewers moments before the fateful jump: "today you fly with me."
The impact itself cannot be seen in the footage, as Schmieder has the camera in his pocket, but a shout can be heard as well as the catastrophic sound of impact. Officials in Switzerland have confirmed that the Italian died in the incident, although the direct cause has yet to be revealed. It is not known whether Schmieder's wingsuit malfunctioned or if the loss of life was as a result of human error.

Following the sound of impact, viewers of the incident became immediately concerned asking Schmieder in the comment section to "write or say something."
A friend of Schmieder told The Zurich Daily Blick said that while the Italian was an "experienced skydiver", he had only been using wingsuits for about a year.
In an interview we published last month, BASE jumping and wingsuit pilot Sam Hardy revealed that everyone who takes part in the high-risk activity is already well aware of the dangers involved. As Sam put it himself, "I'm willing to pay the price, I accepted that way before I started."
Our thoughts are with Armin Schmieder's friends and family at this difficult time.
