Travis Rice Overshoots Chad’s Gap

There’s a funny twist to this video, but we won’t spoil the surprise by going into too much detail. Let’s just say the worldwide wise guy shortage is still long way off. Then again, legendary snowboarder Travis Rice likes a laugh as much as anybody, so we dare say he would approve.

Whoever put this together has taken some of the footage filmed for Absinthe’s classic 2004 movie Pop and added a soundtrack which puts a different spin on it altogether. We still think snowboarding at this level – regardless of whether or not things go exactly according to plan – deserves at least a decent bit of drum and bass to accompany it. But what do we know?

What we can tell you is that the sessions from which this unfortunate mishap is taken cemented Travis’s reputation as one of the most innovative and daring freestyle snowboarders the sport has ever known. The location of the stunt, Chad’s Gap in Utah, had previously only been tackled by a select few, including freestyle skiing titan Candide Thovex. You will have no doubt seen the full footage already, as the aforementioned film it’s taken from is essential viewing for anyone even remotely interested in snowboarding, and it often crops up in compilation videos. On the off chance you haven’t had the pleasure, be sure to seek it out as soon as you can.

But this video is a good watch too if you happen to be in need of a chuckle. Even if you don’t see the funny side, it’ll at least give you an insight into the lengths some of these guys will go to break new ground in snowboarding. It’s just a pity that sometimes that’s not the only thing that ends up getting broken.
