This Awesome Scandinavian Bridge Isn’t Exactly What It Seems. Here’s Why...
This is a truly remarkable piece of engineering.
Who doesn't love looking at a good bridge? Bridges are great. They connect us, quite literally, from one place to another place. They bring people together and prove that, when it comes to engineering, humans can be half-decent when they want to be. If you're a genuine bridge-fan, you'll love this one that connects the Danish capital Copenhagen to the Swedish city of Malmö. It's called the Øresund.
Designed by the Danish architect George K.S Rotne, the bridge stretches for roughly 8km before cleverly moving into the depths of an artificial island; that then becomes a tunnel under the Flint Channel. The tunnel section is 4km long by itself, making the overall length of this bridge-tunnel a genuinely impressive 12km. Wowzers!
