Watch: Travis Pastrana Goes Mad After Landing the World’s First Double Backflip 360 on a Mountain Bike

The Nitro Circus ringmaster just stuck a trick three years in the making...

Travis Pastrana may be a motocross legend and rally car regular, but he’s no stranger to shredding on a mountain bike either – and he’s certainly no stranger to a world first.

The man most famed for landing the first ever double backflip on a motorcycle at the 2006 X-Games is a renowned pioneer. Not only does he have a trick bag bigger than the ramps he rides off, he’s the ringmaster of the Nitro Circus action sports collective; the band of badass athletes who thrive on big tricks and getting there before anyone else.

In the past year or so the crew have been responsible for world firsts from the first triple back flip on a mountain bike and triple back on a motorbike to the first quadruple backflip on a BMX. They’re unrelenting, and now Pastrana is back with another world first of his own.

Three years in the making, the American has finally stuck the first ever “double cork 1080” on a mountain bike, also known as a double backflip 360 or Aussie roll.

The trick is called a double cork 1080 in snowboarding, because it’s three off-access spins where the rider goes inverted twice, explained Pastrana on his Facebook page.

It was dubbed an ‘Aussie roll’ after a scooter kid in Australia landed it into a foam pit, and Brandon Schmidt is apparently working on a sequel to the trick already – an “American Roll” on a BMX, where the Aussie roll has an extra flip and becomes a ‘triple cork 1440’.

Writing on Facebook, Travis said: “We finished one of the all time craziest shows in the history of Nitro Circus live last night in front of a sold out show in London’s O2 arena.

“Woke up this morning tired, sick and beat up… And decided today was going to be the day to land a trick I’ve been working on for three years. Dusty [Wygle] had been working on it equally as long and agreed to give it a go too. But not wanting to leave anyone out, we woke up half the Nitro crew and got the venue early today to have a huck-it session.

“Putting on a show in front of tens of thousands of people is an amazing feeling, but sessions like this morning’s practice with just your friends are what we live for.”

Epic start to the day! Landed a double quark 1080 (ausi-roll – double back flip 360 – whatever you want to call it) on a bet with Dusty Wygle.
