Alpkit Titanium Cookware, MytiMug, Kettle & Kraku Camping Stove Review

Backpacking is an activity where weight is of the utmost importance. You don’t want to be trudging across the Alps, looking like a Duke of Edinburgh participant, with cups and cutlery swinging off the back.

Alpkit, who sell direct to the customer (as opposed to selling through dealers or shops) are among the brands who’ve made weight the focus for their backpacking and bikepacking gear. But just because it’s super lightweight, doesn’t mean it’s super expensive. Like everything in Alpkit’s range, the price of this kit is really reasonable too. Especially given that this is all made out of titanium. Yup, that is a picture of a titanium kettle. Oh, and yes, there’s chopsticks too. Titanium chopsticks. What’s not to like?

“Hands down our favourite are the utterly bonkers (and awesomely-named) Miyagi chopsticks which weigh a mere seven grams each.”

We’ve been using Alpkit titanium cookware gear for a few years now and found it durable and very useful. Titanium is naturally very light and very, very strong. There’s also no metallic taste from the sporks or pots. There’s a wide range of cookware available from Alpkit, but we’ve picked out some of our favourites to feature.

The kettle, weighing a mere 150g, is perhaps the most whimsical, especially at £59. The most useful is probably the 650ml MytiMug, at £29, which is perfect for solo trips. As with all the best design, this is very simple but multi-functional. It can be cooked with, eaten from and drank from. Best of all, it’s also the perfect size to place a gas canister and stove inside. If you’re going ultra light this is all you need. It’s been our go to backpacking pot for several years.

The Kraku stove shown here is also ridiculously lightweight at 45g and only costs £22.50 (how do they do it?). This is a super minimal stove, with a titanium body, a twisted wire gas control and a small burner head with three pot supports.

Also pictured is the, wait for it, Tifoon. This is the evolution of the spork – a titanium spoon, with a fork bit. You can tell they had fun coming up with that name. Most important thing about it (to our minds at least) is that it’s got a bottle opener. The MytiBowl 300 bowl and Titanium Goblits are also useful additions, but hands down our favourite are the utterly bonkers Miyagi chopsticks (again, what a great name) which weigh a mere seven grams each.

The chopsticks (and their name) actually sums up quite nicely what makes Alpkit so special. Here we have a company that takes outdoor gear very seriously, using the best and lightest materials, while also remembering that people actually go outdoors to have fun.
