Primus MicronTrail Stove Regulated with Piezo Lighter | Review

If you're looking for a lightweight stove to take on your adventures, make sure you check out the Primus MicronTrail

Primus are arguably the world’s best camping stove makers. They’ve been doing it for a long time – 125 years to be precise. Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen carried a Primus stove when he became the first person to reach the South Pole in 1911. Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay used a Primus on Mount Everest when they reached the summit in 1953.

Primus’ strong history of supporting adventurers continues with the MicronTrail stove one of their most lightweight, compact models which is used by explorers all over the world. The MicronTrail comes with a Piezo lighter and a regulator with a valve.

Don’t know what a Piezo lighter is? It ignites your stove using piezoelectricity. Press a button and a small, spring-loaded hammer will strike a quartz crystal inside, creating an electrical discharge which lights the gas. It’s quicker and safer than normal gas lighter and will work in the rain, unlike matches.

“If Primus stoves were good enough for Sir Edmund Hillary, then they’re probably good enough for you.”

The regulator allows you to control the flame, so you don’t unintentionally scorch your food. The narrow flame is pretty powerful. You can boil a litre of water in under three minutes with the Primus MicronTrail. Even though it is a tiny stove, it has the capacity to handle large pots. Just fold it up inside your saucepan when you’re done to minimise space in your backpack.

One of the problems you can have with camping stoves is the performance deteriorating when the gas starts to run low. Primus have combatted this issue by adding a regulator to the MicronTrail, so the gas will still burn strong even when the cannister is coming to the end of its life, as well as during a freezing cold night. This helps you maximise the efficiency of your cooking and get the most from your gas bottles .

If you’re looking for a super lightweight stove to take on your adventures, make sure you suss out the Primus MicronTrail. It’s reliable, compact and will cook your packet meal in no time at all. Put it this way, if Primus stoves were good enough for Sir Edmund Hillary, then they’re probably good enough for you.
