Healthy Breaks | The Best Affordable Fitness Holidays

No need to splash out the millions on an A-list boot camp, not when there are plenty of affordable fitness holidays out there

Affordable fitness holidays are within reach. Getting fit and getting a tan doesn’t have to break the bank.

Healthy holidays, they’re all the rage with the slebs, you can’t keep the TOWIE gang out of a boot camp, and Kate Moss has just flown home from a week of detoxing in a Turkish wellbeing centre and spa (let’s not mention the easyjet incident okay?).

But while Kate may have spanked the best part of £20k (maybe) on her mate Sadie’s detox birthday bash, fitness holidays aren’t just for the A-list.

Luxury boot camps can cost anywhere in the region of £1,200 up, but if you know where to look, you can enjoy an all-inclusive week of health and fitness for less cash than a long weekend in Bognor Regis.

Luckily, we’ve done all the hard work for you, from juice and yoga retreats to learn to surf camps, running bootcamps and luxury fitness resorts, these six affordable fitness holidays start from just £235.

You’ll come home relaxed, energised, fitter, leaner and healthier than when you went, and you’ll be so pooped you’ll sleep like a baby. Can’t say that for a fortnight in Magaluf now can you?

1. Swap The Parks For The Playas

What: Sunfit
Where: Fuerteventura
Cost: From £780

One of the UK’s biggest outdoor fitness providers, British Military Fitness (BMF) tear up the parks of the UK with around 400 classes a week. But while mud and drizzle has its place, we’d much prefer to burpee on the beaches with one of their Sunfit holidays.

Alongside the mountain hikes, circuit classes, pool workouts and team sport, there are nutrition seminars
Taking place on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura, the week-long camps are held in a swanky fitness resort favoured by Team GB triathletes (oooh, very nice). The emphasis is less on weight loss and dropping inches – although that’s usually an added bonus – more on increasing your fitness and learning new skills.

An average day consists of 5-6 hours of activities, but don’t worry, that’s not all exercise. Alongside the mountain hikes, circuit classes, pool workouts and team sport, there’ll be educational and nutrition seminars, so you can take your healthy new habits home with you.

New You boot camp in Hereford is what we would class as uber-swank. Set in a delightful old manor house (with a moat and private croquet lawn!) the rooms are luxurious and pricey – but if you opt for a shared room, they suddenly become much more affordable.

There are life coaching, goal setting, and cookery workshops; 10-12 hours of training including hikes in the Hereford countryside and circuits in the grounds; plus you’ll be on a specially devised nutritional programme so can expect to drop a few pounds if that’s your aim.

5. Surfing And Glamping

What: Feral Surf Tours
Where: France
Cost: From £235

Just an hour’s drive from Bordeaux, Feral surf camp offers 3-day taster sessions, ideal for those new to the sport
If you’re looking to try out surfing for the first time, you might as well get the whole ‘surfy’ experience and sleep in the sand dunes dude. Well, a tipi village in the sand dunes anyway.

Just an hour’s drive from Bordeaux, Feral surf camp offers a number of different surf holidays including a 3-day taster session, ideal for those new to the sport. The camps are small – limited to 15 guests – so you’ll get close instruction in your 90-minute surf lessons. Learner-specific boards and equipment are included in the cost, and the secluded position of the beach means you don’t have to fight the crowds to catch a wave.

If you’re not too wiped out by the fresh air and surfing, there are optional excursions to local markets, horse riding, wine tasting (rude not to) and more. Or you could just relax in a hammock with a cold beer and indulge in the camp’s delicious home-cooked food, experience the surf culture for realz.

6. Fitness, Juice And Yoga

What: Juicy Mountain Detox Retreat
Where: Turkey
Cost: From £490 for tented accommodation, hotel rooms also available

You’ve probably heard of Jason Vale, he’s the perma-tanned (must be the carrots), self-styled Juice Master, author of bazillions of juice books and a regular guest on daytime TV. His retreats, therefore, are insanely popular. But that doesn’t mean they need to be expensive.

The rustic Juicy Mountain retreat in Southern Turkey has been running for more than 10 years now and, if you’re happy to sleep under canvas, it’s very reasonably priced.

While Juicy Mountain may sound like a level on Candy Crush, you’ll find no sugary treats here
While Juicy Mountain may sound like a level on Candy Crush, you’ll find no sugary treats here. For the seven-day break you’ll cleanse your system with juices, smoothies, herbal teas and fresh mountain water. The views across the remote valley are stunning, and days are filled with yoga classes, guided walks, rebounding (bouncing around on mini trampolines, yay!) juicing workshops and relaxing round the pool.

We’re not too sure we could survive a whole week without masticating, but guests report flying home feeling “fitter”, “lighter”, “relaxed” and “energised”.
