Orange Dirt World Team – That Flippin’ Five

Orange Mountain Bikes have been building top class rides in the UK since 1988. In 1998 they established a production centre just a short walk from their Halifax based company headquarters. The move paid off handsomely, enabling them to try out new ideas and experiment with fine adjustments as efficiently as possible. A few years later, their hard work produced what has proved to be their most enduring, versatile and best-selling model – the Five.

In this video, maverick freerider and former Orange Dirt World Team star Phil Atwill puts the 2015 version through its paces on some of the rougher trails Surrey Hills has to offer. Phil is renowned for his fearless, flat out approach, and like the Five, can turn his hand to almost anything. Although, if the opening ‘scenes’ are anything to go by, that’s with the exception of acting. So maybe just anything which involves a mountain bike.

But what we’re really interested in is the quality of the bike and the performance on the trails, and here there’s hucking like you wouldn’t believe, plenty of crazy cornering, and some seriously breakneck downhill speed.

Since this video was filmed, Orange Mountain Bikes founders Lester Noble and Steve Wade have decided to hand over the mantle to the next generation, and found the ideal candidate in new owner and managing director Ashley Ball, their former production partner. Phil Atwill and his teammates have moved on from working with Orange Mountain Bikes and are linking up with Propain Bikes and Zelvy Carbon. And to top it all off, there’s an all-new Five for 2016 which incorporates some innovative changes, while still remaining unmistakably a Five. So exciting times all round, which as it happens is exactly what Phil is having in this sweet video.
