Danny MacAskill is one of the nicest guys on the professional biking scene, and though you’ve probably watched him ride everything from cranes to building tops to railings with unfaltering courage, the rider has always maintained that he’s not exempt from fear.
Of course, it takes a little bit more to get Danny “shitting himself", as he puts it in the video below, than it does the rest of us.
We asked him previously about the scariest day he’s spent on a bike for example, which lead him to describe the day he flipped off a giant wall at Edinburgh Castle in gale force winds. You’d find few other people on the planet who would even consider doing such a thing.
But that might not be the scariest moment he’s rolled up to anymore. Just last month Danny dropped the stunning ‘Cascadia’ – a trials video featured across the picturesque rooftops of Gran Canaria, which almost seem custom-made for the rider.
The feature has racked up over 11 million hits on YouTube already for very good reason. There are some stunning tricks in there, one of the greatest finales to a cycling video we’ve ever seen, and, well, all sorts of the usual MacAskill shenanigans in between.
One particular moment that stood out though was a backflip Danny nails across a gap between the rooftops of a huge school, above a frightening drop. The gap itself it fairly lengthy too, and you know that if it’s enough to spook MacAskill, it’s something to approach with caution.
Danny and GoPro have just dropped the behind-the-scenes from that particular trick on YouTube, and it’s an absolute must watch.
The footage gives a really interesting insight into what goes into each trick in Danny’s videos, and how much the mental aspect really comes into things.
Of course, if there’s one man who can push through and get the job done on a bike, it’s the man who’s racked up more YouTube hits than any other human being on a bicycle, and sure enough, Danny gets it done in style. Have a watch for more...
