In recent days, an incredibly rare ‘Fire Rainbow has been spotted in the skies above the Isle of Palms in South Carolina, USA.

The incredible natural show, that looks like a helix exploding into a rainbow, occur only when cirrus clouds, which are made up of tiny ice crystals, are high enough in the sky for the suns light to hit the crystals and reflect back down to the earth.

Meteorologist Justin Lock explains “To produce the rainbow colours the sun’s rays must enter the ice crystals at a precise angle to give the prism effect of the colour spectrum,” insisting “it has to do with getting the precise angle”.
