686 and SCION Racing introduce world’s first snowboard car

Collabs are the rage these days and in snowboarding it’s as ripe as a summer apple. You’ll see collabs everywhere between riders, companies, film crews, pretty much anyone. And this story is the epitome of all collabs, but it also goes to show how much reach snowboarding has these days.

686 and SCION Racing have banged heads to create the world’s first snowboarding concept car. It’s not just 686 that has helped out in the car, there’s a whole host of other brands involved too – Bern, Dragon, Union, Skullcandy, GoPro, Vestal, Blind… Also, don’t be fooled by the name, it’s not a car that snowboards, it’s a car for snowboarders. So what’s the deal?

It has snow specific tyres branded to look like 686 boots, the top of the car is designed like a Bern protective carbon fibre helmet, windshield is designed from Dragon’s APX frameless goggle, Sparco seats are inspired by Union bindings and are constructed in a high-back cup shape, sound system is engineered by Skullcandy, GoPro helped out with the racing mirrors and interior mapping, Vestal inspired the time gauges, Recco Avalanche Rescue systems supplied their sophisticated radar technology and Blind skateboards legendary artist, Marc McKee gave an artistic touch to the interior panels. Not only that but 686 successfully wrapped the car making it the world’s first and only functional waterproof and breathable snowboarding outerwear vehicle, complete with stitched panels, laser welded seams, waterproof zipper and mesh venting.

The action sports industry will get its first look at the vehicle in the 686 booth at SIA in Denver from January 26-29, 2012.
