Berghaus VapourLight Hyper Smock 2.0 Trail Running Jacket Review
An in-depth review of the Berghaus VapourLight Hyper Smock 2.0 Trail Running Jacket
Eighty-five grams is a ludicrous weight for a waterproof jacket. It’s lighter than an iPhone. In fact, the VapourLight Hyper Smock is one of the lightest waterproof jackets in the world.
Putting it on it’s hard to believe this actually is waterproof, but it is. It’s even harder to believe that it is breathable, but as our running tests showed it is that too. In fact this jacket is expressly designed for trail runners.
British company Berghaus have been developing some truly pioneering innovation in recent years, especially out of their MtnHaus Design & Development arm, winning the race towards waterproof down but also making incredible advances in this lightweight category.
“This is one of the lightest waterproof jackets in the world. It’s lighter than an iPhone!"
Every element of the jacket has been carefully considered to not only cut weight, but to remain functional too. The VapourLight Hyper Smock is a trim fitting smock. There’s a basic hood that fits really well even without a draw cord – an improvement made for this second iteration, the 2.0 version of the original Hyper Smock.
There’s also a small zipped chest pocket. The main zip descends half way down the jacket and has been designed so it doesn’t flap when the wind is up. The material itself is a Berghaus proprietary Hydroshell Hyper with very light seams.
This jacket is designed to be used on the trail for those short, sharp deluges, which it does very well. It would also be great for trail runs and adventure races where weight is critical. It’s not for sustained days out on the trail, but for quick runs up the mountain we can’t think of anything better.[competition_embed url="https://mpora.com/competition-builder/707/entries/new"]
