This video, from early January this year, shows that even small looking avalanches can be fatal.
These snow mobilers were out riding, when one of them inadvertently triggered a relatively small slide. You may think that snow mobile would be able to outrun such a tiny avalanche, but within just a couple of seconds, the helpless rider was completely buried.
Luckily, and sensibly, the victim was out riding with friends, who immediately spotted that he was in danger and went to help. They dug his head out, meaning that he could breathe, but also preventing him from panicking.

The surrounding snow, although not appearing to be incredibly deep, was still enough to make the rider completely immobile. Within seconds though, his fellow riders had got him free and, happily, he lived to tell the tale.
It's important to know the dangers of avalanches, and what to do if you or a member of your crew get caught in one. There are a lot of companies, including Henry's Avalanche Talks, that offer excellent courses, that are always worth looking in to.
