When it comes to the art of watching stuff, the internet is effectively split into things you wished you’d never watched, things you’re glad you’ve watched but aren’t in a rush to watch again, and things you could happily watch over and over and over again until either the heat death of the universe or your own death. This insane basketball video. This one right here. Well, it’s, erm….we literally can’t stop watching it.

Filmed at the Mauvoisin Dam in Switzerland, the world’s second largest arch dam, the ‘How Ridiculous’ YouTube upload shows a basketball being lobbed into a net from 593 feet (180m) up. A man known simply as Derek, according to the description, is the person responsible for making the seemingly impossible possible. And yes, now we love Derek. We literally want to name our children after Derek. Derek = Hero.

This man (see above) is Derek. This man is Derek, in the moments, before he did one of the best things we’ve ever seen. The man pictured above is the caterpillar before the butterfly, the caterpillar assessing the situation with nothing but his eyes, his walkie-talkie, and his basketball. In this image, Derek is a mere mortal. In the moments that followed, he became a god.

“Sure”, you might be thinking, “anything is possible if you do it enough times.” Well, hold your cynical horses right there because remarkably the world record throw was done on just the third attempt. Yep. That’s right. The third attempt! Honestly, it takes us about four or five attempts just to tie a tie on those rare occasions we’re forced to wear one. And this, it’s fair to say, is a slightly more difficult challenge than that so to do it on just the third throw is simply next level on the cra’y-cra’y scale.

Anyway, if you need us, we’ll be watching on a loop that sweet moment the basketball swerves at the last and drops through the net. Incredible scenes. Impossible scenes. Phenomenal scenes. Scenes that make you believe in magic. Scenes. Oh and Derek, mate, you’re a bloody legend. Don’t forget this.
