17 Photos Which Prove The Solar Eclipse Was Much More Than Just Grey Skies

These people had a much better time than you when the solar eclipse appeared...

There were no grey skies in Cornwall, but it’s not like we’re jealous or anything. Not at all…    Photo: Ed Blomfield

The United Kingdom was treated to one of the great natural wonders today, as the earth, the moon and the sun lined up to provide a stunning solar eclipse – which the grey British clouds moved to quickly block out.

That’s right, this morning’s once-in-a-generation event turned into a damp squib for many after Mother Nature made sure most of us would be staring at a melancholic wall of misery rather than a visual phenomenon.

Some people got a solar eclipse to stare at, and some people got these jaw-droppingly beautiful grey clouds… Seems fair to us.

Obviously it’s too much to ask to have one f*cking day of good weather across the whole of ‘Great’ Britain.

Luckily, the eclipse wasn’t a downer for everyone though. While most of us were looking up and wondering if it was all some kind of elaborate joke, people in certain areas of the country were snapping smugly away at the ‘astonishing event’ going on in the sky.

If you were one of the unlucky ones, here’s what you missed out on… And yes, you’ve probably got good reason to feel a little bit bitter. The next eclipse on this scale is not for another 11 years.

Thank to everyone who sent in their photos – you can check out more from Sam McMahon here, and Ed Blomfield here.
