Mark Cavendish Crashes Sir Chris Hoy Interview to Ask For an Autograph

"Oh my God Chris! Can I have an autograph?!" - We love you Cav!

Mark Cavendish surprised Sir Chris Hoy and BBC viewers today when he crashed an interview with the six-time gold medallist to ask for an interview… about 30 seconds after finishing the time trial in the men’s omnium.

Hoy was talking up Cavendish’s chances in the omnium after Cav recorded an impressive time and moved up to the silver medal spots in the omnium after four events, with two events still left to go.

Cav and Chris are clearly good friends and what came next was one of the moments of the Olympics, followed by one of the most honest, relaxed interviews we’ve heard in some time.

Some highlights of the interview included Mark aiming for a sub-13 time in the flying lap, referring to a New Zealand rival as a “big non-ginger Ed Clancy”, admitting that the omnium is going to come down to the final points race, and signing off by taking an up and down of Sir Chris and saying “doesn’t he look fitter than most riders?!”

Mark is sitting joint-second in the omnium standings at the time of writing, with the flying lap and the points race left to go tonight to decide the final standings. We’re backing Cav all the way!
