Where can you watch the road cycling at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and when is it on?

It’s a pivotal question for those who, y’know, want to watch the road cycling at the Olympic Games, obviously, and since we know the information can be difficult to access in amongst the library of information and circus of other sports being offered on the Olympic website, we thought we’d make it real simple and list them off below.

There are two Olympic road cycling disciplines, with four total events; the time trial and the road race, in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The road race sees all riders take off in a mass start and race to the finish line, where the first one to cross wins. The time trial sees riders compete individually against the clock, being released at 90 second intervals. The rider with the quickest overall time from the day wins the gold medal.

So where can you watch Chris Froome, Lizzie Armitstead and the Olympic road cycling? Well, if you’re in the UK, the BBC are screening all Olympic events live, whether on television, red button or online. Let’s take a look at the dates:

Rio Road Cycling 2016 | When is the Road Race On at the Olympics?


The men’s road race is on Saturday 6 August, and will start at 9.30am local Rio de Janeiro time.

The women’s follows on Sunday 7 August, and will start from 12.15pm local Rio de Janeiro time.


Rio Road Cycling 2016 | When is the Time Trial On at the Olympics?


Both the men’s and the women’s time trials will be held on Wednesday 10 August.

The women’s time trial will likely start from 8.30am on 10 August, while the men’s will likely follow at around 13.20pm the same day.
