Josh Christiansen took gold in Sochi to win the first ever Olympic men’s Freeskiing Slopestyle in incredible style. He topped the 2014 Winter Olympics podium with a stunning first run which scored 95.80 and was unmatched by an incredible strong field.

X-Games champion, Nick Goepper, picked up bronze, while Gus Kenworthy won silver to complete a one-two-three on the podium for America. Each of the medalists pulled off huge triple corks with Christiansen going biggest with a immaculate nose butter triple cork 1620 proving the difference between gold and silver.

James Woods came a respectable fifth behind Andreas Hatveit, the most experienced skier there, but neither could break the American stranglehold on the medals. Christensen was something of a surprise package having only snook into the Winter Olympics after qualifying at the final possible opportunity.

The final was incredible competitive with the top six all with a realistic chance of taking a medal going into the final round of runs. Christensen’s run proved unassailable however and even he couldn’t improve on it as enjoyed a victory lap to close an incredible debut for freeskiing slopestyle at the Winter Olympics.
