Ruled over by the cheese-eating, rule-breaking, hipster-haircut known as  Kim Jong-un; the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (to give the country of North Korea its official title) is still somewhat of a mystery to many of us. Sure, stories do emerge of nuclear weapon development, human rights violations, and power-cuts in the rural regions but we hardly ever actually get to see videos and photographs taken from within the secretive Asian state.

Pictures, of course, are capable of speaking a thousand words so without pictures it’s difficult to imagine even a smidgeon of what’s really going on in the DPRK. With that in mind, you might be seriously interested to see this footage shot by Aram Pan on a private tour of North Korea’s infamous Masikryong ski resort in December 2015.

We reported in May 2015 that a disagreement over the development of Masikryong may have led to the widely-reported execution of Kim Jong-un’s uncle. If you consider that possibility, which we should state has never been confirmed by sources inside the country, it does gives the bizarre experience of watching this a morbidly fascinating undercurrent.
