There’s A £5 App That Can Help You Ski… But You Need A £6.5k iWatch To Make It Work

The newest piece of kit in the Apple arsenal could be ideal for skiers with mountainous wallets

A new ski-specific app has been launched to coincide with the release of the new Apple iWatch. Costing $7 in the US app store, Slopes is an app that will do things like measure your speed, track the distance you’ve covered on the hill, and give you notice of how many vertical metres you’ve descended.

This kind of geo-tracking service is nothing new – anybody that’s been on the slopes in the past two years will no doubt have seen wealthy 40+ year olds comparing stats over a plate of raclette in the mountain cafe.

However, right now Slopes is the only app designed specially to work in conjunction with the fancy new smart watch. As such, you can check the stats that you really don’t need on the back of your over-worked wrist, as opposed to having to dig around in your bag for your phone.

Or, you know, you could enjoy being in the fresh, clean air of the mountains on the few days of snow you get a year.

While Slopes will also work on a regular iPhone, it’s designed to be used with the new iWatch, so if you want to get the most out of your £5.50 app, you’ll have to fork out the £6,600 for the iWatch, in turn buying Jony Ive another few metres of yacht.

We haven’t uses Slopes, and we certainly haven’t got our hands on a iWatch. We’re certain they both work well, we just don’t really see the point.
