Mauna Kea is the mother of all volcanoes, located on the Big Island of Hawaii, sitting at a whopping 32,000 feet from top to bottom, 13,796 of which is above sea level.It’s also home to the largest astronomical observatory in the world with 13 telescopes along its summit. Beware though, with no lifts, trail maps or ski patrol, this area is best left to the experts.
