With the 2018 Olympics a fading memory, it was three weeks ago today Britain’s Billy Morgan won bronze in snowboard big air. Fresh – well, freshish – off the plane from South Korea, our old pal and former Whitelines whip-cracker Matt Barr caught up with Billy for the Looking Sideways podcast.

Billy Morgan | Is Snowboarding Too Cool for Its Own Good?

With that Big Air bronze very much still around his neck, Billy covers a lot of ground, giving insight into how he felt going in to the 2018 Winter Olympics (“If everybody rode their best, I wasn’t going to get a medal”), his disappointment after the men’s slopestyle (“I was bummed, but then I dismissed it”) and the shocking conditions that blighted the women’s slopestyle final.

Of course, Billy talks in detail about the Big Air, which saw him pick up his bronze medal, when he first saw the size of the jump (“I hoped it was small enough for people not to do quads off”), the close relationship he enjoys with his Coach, Hamish McKnight, and how he helped Billy with the game-plan that saw Morgan bag a medal, and how life has changed since (“It’s really nice, but that fist class VIP thing is for people who have the money, or deserve to be treated like that”).

Morgan also discussed the pressures of life in the Olympic Village, and the viral scooter video he and fellow British snowboarder Jamie Nicholls made that got on the tits of some British Press (“I was stoked!”)
