Kelly Slater announced yesterday that he is pulling out of the US Open of Surfing 2014, taking place this week.

“Slater has recently re-aggravated an old shoulder injury, forcing him to withdraw from this week’s U.S. Open in hopes of resting up for the Billabong Pro Teahupo’o”, said ASP correspondent Dave Prodan.

The news came unexpectedly after Slater posted this mini video of him ‘skurfing’ in Florida on Instagram on Sunday.

Let’s just hope the eleven time World Tour champion is back in action for Teahupo’o in two weeks.
