“The ocean is the love of my life” 24 year-old Laura Enever once said. It’s clear to see why. Hailing from North Narrabeen near Sydney, Australia, Laura started surfing aged 10.

She was the ASP Women’s World Junior Champion in 2009 and also ASP Triple Crown Rookie of the Year. Now she comfortably sits on the World Championship Tour with the top female surfers in the world.

How are you feeling about this year’s WSL World Tour? What are you looking forward to this year?

I’m very excited about the WSL world tour for this year. Every contest is always exciting and I love pushing myself against the best in the world. I am the most excited to compete at Fiji again!

What preparation do you do just before a contest to make sure you feel you best on the morning?

Before a contest, I always make sure I’m feeling best by eating well, stretching, surfing lots and just staying calm and relaxed.

You must have a strict training schedule for most of the year. What are your top ways for staying in the best health?

My favourite thing right now is Pilates, yoga and cardio interval training. Clinical Pilates has helped massively with my past injuries and getting my body feeling stronger and more flexible than ever.

What does your training schedule look like on an average day?

If it is a normal day at home, I wake up and do some yoga, then go for a surf, do Pilates, and then either surf again or work out in the afternoon. I love summer when the days are longer and I can get to surf after dinner too!

How do you like to spend your time out of the ocean? Do you have any secret hobbies?

When I’m not in the water, I love just spending time with my friends and family. Trying to cook, cleaning my apartment, and working on lots of fun side projects out of the water.

How do you think growing up by the coast in Australia shaped the kind of adult you have become?

I would not be the same person if i didn’t grow up on the beaches of Sydney! I got so comfortable with the ocean at a young age and that relationship with the ocean is still the same. I love just going swimming and riding fun surfboards on my off days. Competing is my job but surfing will always be my passion.

What essentials do you always have in your Tour bag?

My bag on tour always has my iPhone, headphones, sunglasses, tinted sunscreen, lip balm and my diary.

Who do you spend the most time with on the World Tour?

On tour, I spend the most time with Sage Erickson. We travel a lot together and are practically sisters. I get along with all the girls on tour and love getting to know them all. They each inspire me in  their own ways.

Which surfer do you think we should be keeping an eye on in 2016?

Steph Gilmore. After a year out, she is back stronger than ever!

You have a huge female following. How much responsibility do you think athletes have as role models to the next generation?

I’m inspired by so many different people, both athletes and non-athletes. I’ve learnt so much from other people, not just from their competitive success but from who they are as people.

Winning to me isn’t the definition of success. I love to learn and push myself to be the best person I can be, and I only hope other girls will see that.

At the end of the day life is about feeling happy, complete and inspired to wake up and follow your dreams.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to surf competitively?

Always trust your instincts – and don’t let a result define you!

What’s the biggest goal that you’d like to achieve in the next few years?

Competitively I would love to aim to win an event on the WSL Tour. I would also love to push myself to surf bigger and bigger waves.

I also really want to start up a foundation to give back to the community and help empower the next generation of surfers.

What are your favourite pieces from this year’s Billabong Surf Capsule Collection?

I really love the palm leaf print. It’s such a unique print and stands out so much in the water.

I also love that Billabong have produced wetsuits that look SO good and wear well in the water. It makes such a difference surfing in such cute functional suits!

What do you like to wear when you are on and off the beach?

When I’m off duty, I like to dress simple but chic. I love nice cuts and good fabric. I live close to Sydney, so I am very inspired by Australian fashion designers and trends.

Billabong have even let me make some customise some clothing to wear to red carpet events which is so awesome.

On the beach, I love wearing any cute bikini. You can’t beat a little black bikini.
