New York City Have Banned Bodyboarding! Yep, Really…

...and then lifted it again after just 48 hours!

It’s all been going off in New York City this week after the metropolis banned the use of bodyboards on any of the beaches in the area.

“For the first time in history, an ocean facing international city has banned the outright use of boogie boards,” reported The Rockaway Times.

The measure came about after a few kids were washed out to sea on bodyboards during Hurricane Bertha.

Clearly these “floatation devices” were dangerous and the NYC Parks Department quickly issued a statement banning them “for people’s safety”. Interestingly, surfboards (which technically also come under the big wedges of foam category) were left out of the ban.

As you can imagine, the bodyboarding community kicked off. Big time.

After just 48 hours the ban was lifted, according to Surfline, as a result of many feet being stamped by the bodyboarders in the area.
