What’s Occurrin’? Barry Island Builds This Tidy New Climbing Wall

We don't expect to see James Corden on this any time soon...

Finally, the needs of typography obsessed, climbing-loving, Gavin And Stacy fans of this world have finally been catered for! A climbing wall has been built in the seaside town in South Wales made famous by the dire BBC sitcom.

The wall features over 1000 climbing holds, all made from recycled plastic, and mostly fitting in with a beach theme. The wall is fully functional, with each letter of the large “YNYS BARRY – BARRY ISLAND” that’s spelt out across its length being climbable.

Discreet holds in between the brightly coloured letters also lets the adventurous traverse from left to right on the wall as well. Tidy.

The feature was designed by artist Gordon Young, as part of a large large regeneration project in the sleepy seaside town.
