How Do You Put An End To Poaching In South Africa? Authorities Are Using Flying Dogs

Is it a bird? is it a plane? No, it's a Golden Retriever in a parachute

Poaching of wild animals continues to be a huge problem in South Africa, along with elsewhere in the world. Since 2008, poachers have killed 5,940 rhinos in South Africa alone.

Sadly as long as there are dickheads willing to believe that bits of ground up wild animal bone are a more affective cure for their ills than conventional medicine, there will be horrible dickheads willing to maim the animals to feed the abject industry.

However, anti-poaching authorities in South Africa have found a novel new way of catching the poachers: flying dogs.

In a bid to get attack dogs where they’re needed instantly, the teams have been training dogs to sky dive, and repel from helicopters. Granted, there’s a human handler around to help out. Have you ever tried pulling a rip-cord with a paw? Absolute nightmare.

It may not be the panacea that puts an end to poaching once and for all, but if it’s another weapon in preventing this barbaric trade, then we’re all for it.
